Visit & Overnights

Making The Most Of Your Visit
While visiting campus, we want you to be able to experience as much of MIT as possible - after all, it is important for you to get a sense of whether MIT is a good fit for you.
To experience the academic side of MIT, you are welcome to attend an approved undergraduate class (when in session) or explore different departments.
To get a sense of student life at MIT, you can meet with an athletic coach, attend a campus event, have a meal on campus, or spend some time with a current student through our day visit or overnight visit programs. You can also explore one of MIT's museums or cultural events through the Office of the Arts.
Lastly, please feel free to stop by our Admissions Reception Center anytime between 9AM-5PM, Monday through Friday, to chat with our admissions staff and enjoy a cup of coffee or tea. Our office is located in Building 10, Room 100 at 77 Massachusetts Avenue. We look forward to welcoming you to campus!
Visit Programs
The admissions office coordinates two hosting programs for students who have the time and are interested in a more comprehensive visit to campus. Both are first-come, first-served, and we ask that students choose to sign up for only one program.
Shadow a Student
The MIT Shadow a Student Program matches prospective high school juniors and seniors with MIT undergraduates from 11am-2pm. Attend a class, grab some lunch and get an informal tour of campus while you ask away about your host's MIT experience!
Shadow a Student visits are available Monday through Friday on days when classes are in session. Visits are set up with MIT volunteers and are on a first-come, first-served basis so please sign up early. Please bring $8-10 to cover your lunch on campus.
To arrange a hosted day visit, please log into your MyMIT account and use the Shadow a Student Form. We need some time to arrange your visit, so please register at least two weeks in advance.
Overnight Program
In conjunction with student volunteer hosts, the Admissions Office arranges overnight stays any Sunday through Thursday evening during the school year (except during MIT vacations, public holidays, and exam periods).
Please note that overnight visits are not available from May through September. During the fall semester, visits are open to high school juniors and seniors. During the spring semester, visits are limited to admitted students.
Your visit will be freeform. Like a real MIT student, you will make your own decisions about how to spend your time here. Your student host will introduce you to campus life, and our office will provide you with a few pointers, including a class schedule and a list of suggested activities. The rest is up to you!
Costs are minimal. There is no charge for the housing. Depending on the living group you stay with, you may have to pay a small fee for meals.
To arrange an overnight visit, please log into your MyMIT account and use the Overnight Program Registration Form. We need some time to arrange your visit, so please register at least two weeks in advance!
